All seven police officers accused of murdering Free State protester Andries Tatane have been acquitted.

The state had failed to prove the identity of the accused, Eyewitness News reporter Andrea van Wyk tweeted.

Tatane was killed on April 13 2011, allegedly by police using rubber bullets, during a service delivery protest in Ficksburg.

The case received significant media attention after footage of Tatane’s alleged assault by police members was broadcast nationally.
